OUTREACH DEPARTMENT PROGRAM WINS AWARD!
The national Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) organization recently announced the winners of the Program Excellence Honors award. Sponsored by the MetLife Foundation, this award celebrates the work of outstanding RIF programs from across the country. For many years the library has been a RIF participant and the Outreach Department has managed the program, which gets free books into the hands of children and teens across the county. The library's RIF program is funded by a combination of a grant from the national RIF organization and a local matching grant, which for several years has been generously provided by Wal-Mart.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY READS! PREPARES FOR A THIRD SEASON
Rockingham County Reads! recently completed a second successful season of offering a community reading program. Winding up the program on The Kite Runner was a lecture at Rockingham Community College by Dr. Jeff Jones from UNC-Greensboro. Dr. Jones gave a very insightful talk about the book and encouraged comments and discussion from the audience. Suggestions are being considered for the next book in the program, so if you have any ideas please e-mail Jay Stephens at jstephens@library.rcpl.org.

LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
The Rockingham County Public Library Board of Trustees will be meeting on May 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Eden Library. Board meetings are open to the public.

MEMORIAL DAY CLOSING
All library locations will be closed on May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. Normal operating hours will resume on May 27. For information about Memorial Day, including the history and proper ways to observe Memorial Day, visit the Memorial Day site.



UPCOMING PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
The library will have a table at the Karastan Employee Health Fair on May 16.

The library's monthly radio show will be broadcast on WLOE/WMYN on May 21 at 8:30 a.m. The topic for May will be "Summer Programs."

The Library Board of Trustees will be meeting on May 22 at 4:00 p.m. at the Eden Library.

The library's Bookmobile will be making a special appearance at Leaksville-Spray Elementary School field day on May 29 and 30.
