Administration Building

The Administration Building was once the library for the Town of Leaksville, before the merger of Leaksville, Draper, and Spray into the City of Eden. The building was constructed with W.P.A. funds and a donation of $5,000 from the Leaksville Township Railroad Bond Committee. It first opened in 1937, received renovations in 1950 and 1982, and is 4,420 square feet. Today it houses the offices of the library director and administrative assistant, as well as the Outreach, Technical Services, and Automation departments.

Eden Library

The present Eden Library was opened in 1976 and is 15,600 square feet. The Fieldcrest Foundation donated the lot on which the library is located, as well as $50,000 to the building fund.

Madison-Mayodan Library


The Madison-Mayodan Public Library opened to the public on July 14, 2014. The lot the library was built on was donated by Dalton McMichael. Twenty-Five percent of the funding for the creation of the new library was provided by Rockingham County, another twenty-five percent of the building costs was provided by the towns of Madison and Mayodan. The remaining fifty percent of the building budget came from donations and grants, the majority of which were contributed due to the tireless work of the Western Friends of the Library members. The new library is 12,300 square feet.

Outreach Department

The Outreach Department is located in the library’s Administration Building. The department offers bookmobile service, homebound delivery, and service to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The library’s first bookmobile went into service in 1937 and was one of the first bookmobiles in North Carolina.

Reidsville Library

The present day Reidsville Library was completed in 1973 and is 12,600 square feet. The City of Reidsville donated the lot and gave $35,000 toward construction costs. The Reidsville Jaycees raised $144,868 for the new library.

Stoneville Library

The original section of the present Stoneville Library was built in 1967, funded in part by a $20,000 bond issue passed by the citizens of Stoneville. Additional space was constructed in 1990’s, with funding being provided by a federal grant and the land being donated by Mrs. Mabel Payne Glenn. The total square footage of the library is 3,990. A trust fund established by Vera Holland provides some support for the library, as well as for the neighboring Vera Holland Community Center.
