There will be a book signing and discussion of Sylvia McClintick’s book, “Organized Chaos”, at the Madison-Mayodan Library on Tuesday, March 24 from 11:00-12:00 and also 4:00-5:00.


Take Part in the Library Teen Poetry Contest

This competition is open to all teen poets. It is an excellent chance to showcase your original work and become visible as a writer in your community.

General Information
• Sponsored by Rockingham County Public Library and the Friends of the Libraries.
• There are two levels of competition: Middle School and High School.
• Your entry will be displayed at the library during the month of April regardless of award level.

Official Criteria
• You must be between 11-19 years old and be a student in a Rockingham County public or private school or home school.
• Poems can be any style but suitable for a general, all-age audience.
• Poems must be the original work of the entrant.
• You may submit one poem.
• The poem must be typed or hand written in ink on one side of an 8 ½” x 11” piece of paper.
• Teachers or parents may submit student entries, as long as each entry is accompanied by a completed entry form that is signed by the student/poet.
• A teacher or media specialist must co-sign each entry as a guarantee of originality.
• An entry form must accompany your poem.
• Do not sign your poem. It will be disqualified.

Prizes: awarded at the Eden Library & at the Reidsville Library & the Western Libraries
• Middle School: ribbons & $25 gift card for First Place, $15 gift card for Second Place & $10 gift card for Honorable Mention
• High School: ribbons & $25 gift card for First Place, $15 gift card for Second Place & $10 gift card for Honorable Mention
• Awards will be mailed to your home address.

• Entry forms are available at all the public libraries.
• Bring your poem and entry form to any Rockingham County Public Library before 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Note: Stoneville Library is closed on Saturdays.
• Your poetry will be returned to you at your school by the middle of May.

The Bookmobile has Added Two New Location Sites!

We are excited to announce that the Bookmobile has two new sites!

The Second Monday of Every Month (beginning 1/12/15) the Bookmobile will be parked at the Mayodan Walmart ~ 1:00 til 4:00.

The Fourth Monday of Every Month (beginning 2/23/15) the Bookmobile will be parked at the Wentworth Family Dollar ~ 11:30 til 12:30.

We hope you will make plans to come check out the Bookmobile at these two new locations.

You asked for them and now they are here! Due to popular demand the library has added e-books to our library’s collection.

The Library’s e-book collection went live on November 5. Go to to browse the e-books available for check out.

The library e-books can be read on PCs, Macs, Android Devices, iOS devices, Kindle Fires, and Nooks. If you would like to checkout library e-books, visit your local library and ask for help setting up an Axis360 account.

Check Out Our New Language Learning Program!

Rockingham County Public Library has added a new language learning program to our website.

Pronunciator offers language lessons for 80 different languages and offers ESL courses for 50 non-English languages.

You can tailor your language lessons to subjects that interest you and quiz yourself to find out how much you’ve learned.
