Rockingham County is now a proud participant in the online history project DigitalNC (, and we have our very own Rockingham County Legacy page! In presenting this resource to the community, Rockingham County Public Library joins DigitalNC in the belief that community history is life enriching and meant to be celebrated.

Visit Rockingham County Legacy: A Digital Heritage Project (, and see what treasures you find in the collections of images, memorabilia, yearbooks, and city directories. Search by keyword, material type, or by contributing institution.

Free Health Screening at the Madison-Mayodan Public Library on Wednesday September 17, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

  • This program is free and open to the public. Walk-ins are encouraged!

Shred It will be at the Eden Library on Saturday September 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Drive up and have your items unloaded.

There will be no charge for this service but donations are appreciated. The Shred-it program is sponsored by the Eden Friends of the Library. Donations to the Eden Friends of the Library help provide funding for future library programs and services.

Suggested Items to Shred:

  • Cancelled checks
  • Bank statements
  • Old bills
  • Tax forms
  • Legal documents
  • Catalogs
  • Personal medical info
  • Anything with printed name and address.

Remember the IRS requires you to keep 7 years documentation for tax audit purposes.

Please bring items in manageable amounts and containers such as paper grocery bags or recycle bins that 1 person can lift.

No NEWSPAPERS or CARDBOARD will be accepted!

The New Madison-Mayodan Public Library is Open to the Public!

The new Madison Mayodan Branch of Rockingham County Public Library celebrated its grand opening on Monday, July 14, 2014.

The library is located at 611 Burton Street, across the street from the Food Lion grocery store, in Madison North Carolina.

The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

You can Sign Up to Check Out E-books at your Local Library

You asked for them and now they are here! Due to popular demand the library has added e-books to our library’s collection.

The Library’s e-book collection went live on November 5. Go to to browse the e-books available for check out.

The library e-books can be read on PCs, Macs, Android Devices, iOS devices, Kindle Fires, and Nooks. If you would like to checkout library e-books, visit your local library and ask for help setting up an Axis360 account.

Check Out Our New Language Learning Program!

Rockingham County Public Library has added a new language learning program to our website.

Pronunciator offers language lessons for 80 different languages and offers ESL courses for 50 non-English languages.

You can tailor your language lessons to subjects that interest you and quiz yourself to find out how much you’ve learned.
